After dropping a few solo tracks over the last year, it went relatively silent for R&B/Pop newcomer Chloe Bailey,
also known monominously as Chlöe
one half of Sister duo Chloe x Halle. Well now she's back and she's teamed up with "Big Energy" Rapptress Latto for a collaboration entitled "For The Night".
So these are my thoughts. I think that Chloe does have alot of growing to do as a solo artist but...I also think this a nice change of pace and adds depth to her as an artist. The song gives 2000's Pop/R&B feels with some added modern trap elements and a slightly dated violin arrangement. Done with a modern more sung than rap (Praise God) vocal arrangement, I like it, and I think I enjoyed the snippets previously a bit more, but it's a grower and Latto adds a nice but brief element to the song.
Overall, Chloe's voice sounds nice and it's a cute song.
Video wise, I think this is the lane Chloe should go for more. The high octane cinematography visuals were dope in a sense (and clearly there's been a budget cut) because it felt more sincere, personable and intimate. It was like she gave us a slightly more dramatized version of her life for a music video and it was dope! I do hope her future music videos focus on the expression of conceptualized style and themes, and play on her strengths instead of trying to mold her into a lane that maybe isn't her strong suit. Though it could be argued otherwise in terms of growth, I think it would greatly benefit her. But what do you think?
