New Music: Rihanna - Lift Me Up (From Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Soundtrack)

Rihanna is back! The Pop superstar just released her first solo single in 6 years and fans are in a frenzy of sorts. Listen to the track below.

I'm gonna be honest, when i first heard this song in the evening of October 27th I was not feeling it. I was like "We waited 6 years for THIS?" But this morning I can reflect and realize it was because I was expecting something in particular from "Rihanna" the global Pop superstar who makes bops on top of bops who has several number 1 singles, and then I received the very opposite of what I was expecting.

Deciding to wait until morning time, (cause everyday is a new beginning) I was able to hear the orchestral, piano, and acoustic guitar laden track for what it is.

Rihanna's voice comes through as the driving force of the record and showcases some of the most vulnerable sentiments for the first time I've heard from her in a long time in her music in both lyrical and vocal depths.

It's basically a song in which Rihanna is asking her love to comfort her and help her stay afloat in the midst of what sounds kind of like anxiety and worry about life. I think to Rihanna's strengths, the simplicity of how she sings this record works in her favor. Where as, if someone else had sung this song, they may have tried overvocalizing and oversinging to compensate for the simplicity of the song, but Rihanna sings it as if it's a lullaby, only riffing and running if necessary. The grit in Rihanna's voice now is also very interesting, in some ways it has added a certain seasoning to her voice and showcases use, but in some instances, can seem a bit unpleasant to the ear. But overall, it's a very warm and powerfully simple love ballad of a need of intimate assurance in the midst of hard times, something I believe the producers of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" were going for in the midst of the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman.
