As an avid listener of more Urban and Pop oriented music, this blog usually places an emphasis on those genres and Christian music that also falls into those categories. However, whenever two artist of different genre's come together, there is always the possibility that their collaboration and teamwork will reach people beyond their normal demographic and that's exactly what Walker Hayes and Ciara are on a mission to do!
Country Singer-Songwriter Walker Hayes takes his booming new single "Ya'll Life" which fittingly samples Nelly's "Country Grammar" to new heights with the help of R&B Superstar Ciara for a fun Country Pop affair.
Walker and Ciara chime in together for a tribute to their upbringings and the life of the south, the surroundings, happenings, foundational beginnings and everything from "crawdads crawling" "their mama's sweet tea" to "Jesus and football". This is certainly an anthem for both the south and country folk.
To be honest, on the first play i was like hmmmm...I'm not sure what i think about this. An avid Ciara fan, Walker Hayes coming through my phone speaker with his lovely country accent was a bit different and at first the structure of the song seemed a bit clunky to me. It also has rather traditional country themes and ideologies sprinkled throughout it. However, different can be a good thing and on further plays i realized this was a certified BOP! and what seemed like an unlikely pair made for an awesome collaboration. I think it also helps with my sentiments of music having more meaning than some of what popular music displays now.
They also performed the country bop for CMT'S Artist of The Year 2022!
On first play, I thought Walker sounded a bit shaky (possibly nervous) especially as he transitioned into his upper chest voice but realized that it was intentional and the dude has a little bit of swag for a country dude. I think he also may have been nervous, as there have been a few heckler fans on his social media about the collaboration and their has been backlash from several country fans whenever a country artist brings out a black artist of another genre for one of their songs (See Beyonce and Monica) He might get a play from me in the future outside this song. He does have a nice voice.
Ciara on the other hand came out guns blazing and it sounded so good, I almost thought it was playback (though i think it was laced with a bit of "tune")! But as a Ciara fan i know very well that when Ciara's on her A-game, sis will bring it vocally contrary to popular beliefs.
Overall, I enjoyed this collaboration and I think they did a wonderful job.
The single is actually not Ciara's first forray into country as she featured on fellow Black Country artist Blanco Brown's "The Git Up"in 2019.
"Ya'll Life" is the first single from Walker Hayes upcoming project.
Meanwhile Ciara is gearing up for her upcoming 8th studio album featuring her new singles "Jump" & "Better Thangs"
