So last week the 2022 AMA's took place to an onslaught of backlash. Particularly, news came out that there not only was supposed to be a tribute to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, but that it was supposed to be spearheaded by Chris Brown.
The revelation was made by Chris himself as he was in heavy rehearsal for the tribute to the legend that was Michael Jackson, blatantly known as the biggest inspiration for Brown's career.
From an introduction of Brown's "Under The Influence" the performance juxtaposed into a miriad of hits by Jackson that clearly would've made for a showstopping showcase, but unfortunately it never happened. According to sources close to ABC, execs we're not thrilled about brown "a convicted domestic abuser" tributing an "alleged child molester".
In my most professional voice, if ABC don't get the fuck out of here with this bullshit! Listen, I'm bothered and disturbed by the actions of domestic abusers. However, I'm more bothered by the fact that there are other men in the industry who have violent and domestic abusing past who also work for these companies who's jobs it is to keep these things under wraps. So you'll hold one person (a black man) liable for his actions, but not everyone. Does that mean he shouldn't be held accountable for his actions? No, but then I would like to talk about grace.
It is so odd to me that we live in such an unforgiving society, a society where people get DUI's for going out and partying, you sleep with others when you became intoxicated but still made the choice and realized it was a mistake, you make a vicious rumor about someone when you're young because you are jealous, you emotionally abuse someone because of your trauma. I could go on and on, but as much as regular people try to hide their faults and think that because no one knows it's ok, all of these things here would be condemned as wrong by most people and yet we want grace for ourselves when we fuck up in our lives but then will not extend and become self-righteous to others trying to beat them over the head with things they should be allowed to move past from.
Not going to say that Chris Brown should not be held accountable or that the information regarding his past should not ever be considered, especially in the case of if he decides to cause harm again. What I am saying however, is that EVERYBODY makes mistakes. And though most people try to hide things from others, we are all accountable to the one who created us all and one day we will answer for it all. So be careful who you throw stones at.
But what are your thoughts?
